It took Mourinho being sacked by Chelsea and United dispensing with Louis Van Gaal for the Portuguese coach to finally end up at Old Trafford, the job which he is said to have coveted back in 2103.

Mourinho claimed his first trophy in charge of United as the Reds squeezed past Southampton 3-2 in a thrilling EFL Cup final last Sunday.

It was the 23rd major trophy of his managerial career, and despite a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, United look to be getting back to playing attacking football that is producing results.

According to the Daily Mail, Ferguson has privately admitted he wishes the current United boss has replaced him four years ago, but now insists the club have the right man at the helm to move forward.
