Wayne Rooney to China: Tianjin Quanjian boss Fabio Cannavaro confirms talks for Manchester United record goalscorer
Chinese Super League sides are willing to offer striker £1m a week... but Tianjin also have their eye on two other players
TIANJIN QUANJIAN boss Fabio Cannavaro has confirmed an approach has been made for Wayne Rooney.
But the Manchester United legend is not the Chinese Super League side's first choice.
Jose Mourinho admitted skipper Rooney could quit Old Trafford next week.
United's record goalscorer has a £1million-a-week offer to play in China.
And Tianjin Quanjian appears a likely destination for England's most prolific forward.
But Cannavaro said Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic are ahead of Rooney in their transfer plans.
He said: "We did make an approach for Rooney, but it was just chit-chat because he simply doesn't suit our style of play.
"No further discussion was necessary. The truth is we had more frequent contact with Aubameyang.
"Unfortunately, our bid was rejected by Borussia Dortmund, who said he was needed in this season's Champions League.
"Our prime target is still Kalinic but it's quite difficult for his club to let him leave at the moment.
"Under such circumstances, we are caught in a dilemma. I need to communicate with our managing director."
Aubameyang is one of the hottest properties in world football and SunSport told you earlier this month who Manchester City were also keen on the 27-year-old.
Kalinic has previously turned down a £42.5million move to China - because he thinks he is not worth that much money.
He said: "Cannavaro called me, but for me the issue is closed and has never been re-opened.
"I am really not worth the £42.5million release clause and I doubt anyone will spend that for me."
