Liverpool set to transform Kirkby training academy facility with £50m revamp to help find next Steven Gerrard

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be the driving force behind the idea that will also see the local community get an upgrade in facilities

LIVERPOOL will leave their first-team training base at Melwood to move to a new £50million complex at Kirkby.

This means the new state-of-the-art facility will be used by the senior teams as well as all the youth academies.

It is believed boss Jurgen Klopp proposed the amalgamation, and the club's owners the Fenway Sports Group have put aside funds to make it happen.

The has reported that the Merseyside club have "reached an agreement with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council over the scope of work and funding" and that "heads of terms will be finalised once a public consultation period is completed".

Liverpool's first team have been training at Melwood since the 1950s, and this move shows the trust the board are putting into Klopp's revolution at Anfield.

It's also good news for the local community. Nearby football pitches will be upgraded, and there will be a new car park and changing facilities built, and even new modelled cycle paths.

There will now be a public consultation with local residents on the proposals.
