Hertha Berlin 1 Bayern Munich 1: Robert Lewandowski rescues point six minutes into stoppage time as Bavarians suffer Champions League hangover

Just three days after mauling Arsenal 5-1, Carlo Ancelotti's men were lacklustre and lucky to leave German capital with point

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI saved Bayern Munich with an equaliser SIX minutes into injury time.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men were far from their best and looked set for only a second league defeat of the season.

Bayern appeared to be suffering from a Champions League hangover, having beaten Arsenal 5-1 just three days ago.

Ancelotti reacted by rotating his squad — with Lewandowski and Xabi Alonso starting on the bench.

Ibisevic had the ball in the back of the net once again just before half-time, but saw his header ruled out for offside.

Hertha were the strongest after the restart and should have done better when they caught Bayern on the counter.

Salomon Kalou set up Genki Haraguchi, who should have done better from 15 yards out.

And, just two minutes later, Manuel Neuer was forced into a save.

Bayern showed their frustration as Mats Hummels, Lewandowski and Alonso all picked up bookings in the space of four minutes for niggly fouls.

The Bavarians have scored 11 times in the last 15 minutes of matches this season, but rarely threatened.

Goalkeeper Rune Jarstein made a decent late save from David Alaba’s shot much to the delight of the home crowd, as they prepared to celebrate a famous victory.

However, it wasn’t to be.

Bayern threw everything forward — including Neuer — as they chased the equaliser.

And, with just seconds remaining, Thiago Alcantara’s cross fell to Arjen Robben whose shot was saved by Jarstein.

But the Hertha stopper was out of position as Lewandowski poked in the rebound.

The win puts Bayern eight points clear at the top and, despite being a far cry from their swashbuckling best, are running away with the title.

Borussia Dortmund’s woeful form and RB Leipzig’s inexperience means the Bavarians are unlikely to be sufficiently challenged for the rest of the season.

Hertha, meanwhile, move level with Hoffenheim in fifth place with the point.
