And the French boss has come under increasing scrutiny by furious supporters as his side are all but out of the title race as they sit 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea.

It will leave Wenger without a league title for an incredible 13 years as his recent record threatens to tarnish his success at the club.

And ex-Manchester United defender Neville believes Wenger's legacy at the club won't be forgotten when he does eventually leave.

In a tweet the Sky Sports pundit wrote: "A terrible night for him and Arsenal but it won't. Only the emotional and the exaggerated will suggest that his legacy will be tarnished."

Speculation over Wenger's replacement has been rife with Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez linked with a surprise move to the Emirates.

However the Spaniard insists he is not focused on taking Wenger's position by adding: "That’s it, so I’m just focused on that. As a manager you are used to have clubs talking and the media talking so what you have to do is just concentrate on your job.”
