Di Maria, who was playing on his 29th birthday, said: “I was there for Barca's 5-0 win over Real Madrid and was left with a similar facial expression right after it as they have now.

Speaking to BeIN Sports, he added: “It was a perfect night and we played the perfect match," he told BeIN.

“It is impossible to trust we have beaten the best team in the world, we have to work like we did today in the next match.
“Thank God 2017 is turning out all right and to be able to win a very important game.
“Just as we scored four against them, we have to continue working hard to be in the quarterfinals.”
