Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez… None of these big names come close to Europe’s top shooter
Out of all the star names, it's a former Premier League flop who leads the way with 113 attempts this season already
WHEN you think of Europe's top shooters, you'd be forgiven for instantly thinking of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.
But in reality, neither of those La Liga stars even come close to the No1 spot in terms of shots taken in 2016-17.
Using data from the 'Big Five' leagues in Europe - the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 - it's actually a Manchester City flop who leads the way.

However, starting at No10, it's Manchester United's £89million midfielder Paul Pogba who's unleashed 79 shots the season.
Yet that glut of attempts has only seen him hit the target 24 times and score a mere FOUR.
Serie A giants Napoli feature heavily in the top ten, with both Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens on the list.
Insigne has taken 80 shots - good for ninth - while Mertens has had 83 attempts at goals (seventh), netting seven and 16 goals respectively.
Sandwiched between them is another Serie A star - Mauro Icardi - with 80 shots, 27 on target and 15 goals.
The Premier League's second entry is Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez in sixth spot with 85 shots, 33 of which have been on target and 15 have resulted in goals.
Barcelona star Messi is only good for fifth, as his 85 shots - with 38 on target - have seen 16 goals.
Lazio's Ciro Immobile has taken 87 shots, for 12 goals, while in third place is Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.
The Dane's 88 shots have seen just five goals.
Meanwhile, in second, United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has taken 95 shots, with 39 on target and an impressive 15 goals.
However, in first place, above all of those big-name stars... Roma's Edin Dzeko.
The ex-City striker has taken a whopping 113 goals, with 52 of those hitting the target.
Much like Zlatan, Sanchez and Icardi, he too has only scored 15 goals.
With Gabriel Jesus keeping even Sergio Aguero out of the team however, it's fair to say City don't miss Bosnian ace Dzeko all that much.
