Crystal Palace boss weighing up move for Uruguay defender Martin Caceres

Sam Allardyce offers trial to the former Juventus player to see if he is the answer to the Eagles' defensive woes

CRYSTAL PALACE are keen on former Juventus defender Martin Caceres.

It seems that Caceres, who also played for Barcelona, is set to link up with Palace for training so that boss Sam Allardyce can assess his fitness levels.

Caceres, 29, is still a free agent after leaving Juventus last summer when his contract expired.

A number of clubs have been linked with him, but the Uruguayan has not taken up any of the offers.

He is now keen to fix himself up with a new club, and struggling Palace are ready to offer him the chance to play in the Premier League.

Allardyce is understandably desperate to strengthen his defence as he has yet to win a league game since taking over at Selhurst Park.

And Caceres offers flexibility as he can play anywhere across the back line and he boasts a wealth of experience.
