WOLVES provided the first upset of FA Cup fourth round day with a superb 2-1 win over a lacklustre Liverpool at Anfield.
A wonderful Helder Costa ball in for Paul Lambert's Championship strugglers was met by the totally unmarked centre-half Richard Stearman after just 53 seconds.
He could not miss from yards out, and stunned Anfield amid riotous celebrations by the players and the 8,500 travelling fans, who have not seen Wolves get beyond the third round since 2011.
Question marks were also raised again about Loris Karius who was slow off his line and could have come for the ball.
And shortly before the break, Costa broke and played in Andreas Weimann, who rounded Karius to make it an unprecedented 2-0, sparking boos on the half-time whistle.
Liverpool lacked all sorts of penetration in the second half until the 85th minute when Divock Origi's close range finish set up a nail-biting finale for Wolves - but they held on to record a famous win.
FACTS, STATS, GOALS & LOLS
BIG HUGS pre-match between Jurgen Klopp and Paul Lambert over their Borussia Dortmund connections – wonder if they said “Good Luck” to each other in German?
HOME IS where the heart is for first minute scorer Richard Stearman, now happily settled back at Wolves on loan after leaving for Fulham.
JURGEN KLOPP brought in four youngsters with nine changes in all – Ovie Ejaria, Ben Woodburn, Connor Randall and Joe Gomez. And they looked like startled rabbits to begin with.
DANIEL STURRIDGE got another indication of his true standing in his manager’s eyes – dumped to the bench after his failure in the EFL Cup semi final defeat by Southampton.
WOLVES AND Liverpool met in the FA Cup since February 1952, also at the fourth round stage on the day Anfield's all-time record attendance of 61,905 was set.
CONNOR COADY was back “home”, two and a half years since he left for Huddersfield before a £2M switch to Wolves – he spent 15 years at Liverpool from the age of six.
NATHANIEL CLYNE is a worry for Jurgen Klopp looking ahead to the big Prem clash with Chelsea – he failed a fitness test on a stomach injury to miss the Wolves visit.
JURGEN KLOPP must know better than anybody after a nightmare first half that his squad just is not good enough – or deep enough.
PAUL LAMBERT has admitted he would like to tie on-loan Helder Costa down to a full – time deal from Benfica but his performance at Anfield will only have alerted more Premier League clubs his impressive abilities.
KLOPP KOPS it in a Tweet by Gary Lineker : “Don't get Klopp playing his reserves with no European football. Shows a lack of knowledge of the depth in English football and respect.”
ANDREAS WEIMANN just loves playing at Anfield, having scored three in his last four. And he took Wolves' second goal brilliantly for a manager he loves playing under.

THEY SAID
Paul Lambert: "When you play you have top be brave and handle the atmosphere, but we did that.
"When you come here and you score early it naturally draws you back, but we worked hard to hurt them on the counter attack.
"I knew they'd come at us, but the Kop don't score a goal, Liverpool do and we have a young side - but they were really grown up.
"I've been here with Villa and Norwich and not lost, but this is the best."
Jurgen Klopp: "We lost because of a very bad performance. It started badly and didn't get better. There is not many good things to say about this game. It is difficult to explain.
"The start gives them confidence immediately, and we obviously weren't ready.
"Second half was better, it should have been better, it was not possible for it to have been worse.
"I am responsible for the lineup, you learn a lot about players in situations like this, but I am responsible for this performance.
"I cannot say nothing happened, because the opposite is the truth, but we cannot suffer more than we already have done. We should have played better and it was a fair result."
