Watford consider mega offer to sell Odion Ighalo to Chinese Super League side this month
Nigerian striker has struggled to recapture the form of last season as Hornets boss Walter Mazzarri could cash in on player who has fallen down pecking order
WATFORD are considering a staggering £27million offer for Odion Ighalo from the Chinese Super League.
Hornets boss Walter Mazzarri more than suggested the club are ready to cash in on the striker whose form has dipped alarmingly in the last year.
The 27-year-old who terrorised Premier League defences at the start of last season with Troy Deeney, has only scored two league goals in the last 12 months.
And with Watford signing M'Baye Niang on loan from AC Milan and Mauro Zarate from Fiorentina this week, the Nigerian will not be seen as a great loss with Shanghai Shenhua offering mega money for the out of form hitman who moved to Vicarage Road from Granada in 2014.
Ighalo declined to join the Far East revolution last summer when Shanghai SIPG tabled an incredible £37.5m bid.
reported last month Shanghai Shenua are keen to pair Ighalo with Carlos Tevez the highest paid player in the world in attack.
Mazzarri, speaking ahead of Watford's tricky FA Cup fourth round tie at Millwall on Sunday, admitted the club have received offers for Ighalo.
The Italian said:“With Odion Ighalo, we know there are some offers, but it is still too early to say anything.
“I don't like to say all the details because I don't know them, but I know there is more than one – and there might be one from China. He added.
Mazzarri went on to add:“Ighalo was always a very important player for this team, but there are times when a player can end his time with one club and make a decision on their career.
“I know that in the second half of last season he is a player who didn't do well and didn't perform as well as he did at the beginning.
“The player I received was not the same as in the first half of last season. It was already some time that he had not been performing so well, but I don't know the reasons why.”
