Arsenal transfer news: Mathieu Debuchy trying to orchestrate return to France before deadline closes next week
Defender has been told he is free to leave the Emirates after falling out with Arsene Wenger despite returning from injury
ARSENAL outcast Mathieu Debuchy is reportedly trying to engineer a return to France before next week’s transfer deadline.
The right-back is not in Arsene Wenger’s plans for the rest of the season following Gabriel’s impressive spell in the role.
Wenger said: “I didn’t close the door because there’s a lot of competition on the right flank. Now Gabriel has been convincing on the right side as well, so I don’t close the door.
“What I just want to say is he (Debuchy) is fully fit now and so he is available to play and maybe even to have an experience somewhere else.”
Debuchy and Wenger’s relationship is barely existent these days, with the defender revealing the pair hardly say a word to each other at the training ground.
Debuchy claimed: “We acknowledge each other, we say hello – nothing more.
“I had chances [to leave] at the end of the window [last year]. Unfortunately the club did not want to release me.
“I had a good pre-season, I gave everything but from the first match, I was not in the squad. That was a real slap in the face.
“Have I asked for an explanation from Wenger? Not since last January. Before Bordeaux I was often in his office, but since then I have not felt the need. I have not wanted to.
“What do I hope for the next window? A way out. I would prefer a transfer but I am just an employee. If the club says no to me, what can I do?”
