Sunderland full-back Patrick van Aanholt having medical at Crystal Palace today after £12m fee agreed

Van Aanholt is close to linking up with Sam Allardyce again in £12million deal following the former England manager's short stint at Stadium of Light

CRYSTAL PALACE are on the verge of signing Patrick Van Aanholt from Sunderland.

The Eagles have been desperate to solve their left-back crisis with the Black Cats begrudgingly accepted fellow Premier League strugglers £12million deal.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed Van Aanholt is currently undergoing a medical and will complete the formalities of his transfer later on Friday.

The defender who handed in a transfer request to help push the move through this month could make his Palace bow in the FA Cup against Manchester City on Saturday.

The fee for the 26-year-old could rise to £12m which is a huge profit on a player signed for £1.5m from Chelsea in 2014.

The defender who played a key role in the Black Cats survival last season, masterminded by the current Eagles boss.

Allardyce has been working all month to bolster his left sided options with the long term absence of Pape Souare due to his horrific car crash last September.

Bain blasted:“If a player openly states he does not want to play for our club, then it is clear that we have a decision to make.
In this instance and in regard to this particular player, we have done what we feel is right for Sunderland, which will always be our priority.” Bain added.
