ANDROS TOWNSEND'S return to Newcastle United could be scuppered as talks with Crystal Palace reach an impasse.
The England winger joined Palace last summer following the Magpies relegation to the Championship - but now the Eagles want to sell him back.
The 25-year-old winger is keen on a return to the North East to help the Toon's immediate return to the top flight, but they only want to take him on loan.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce, when England manager overlooked Townsend for the only squad he picked for the opening World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.
Newcastle only want Townsend on a loan deal so they can keep their summer options open, but Palace want to sell him back to the Championship side this month for the £13million they paid for him last July.
Palace are set to pay the next £3million instalment to Newcastle for Townsend this month and would prefer to spend the cash on Sunderland full back Patrick Van Aanholt.
The arrival of the Black Cats full back will allow new boy Jeffrey Schlupp to play in a more advanced role on the left, leaving Townsend surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park.
