But any plans of holding onto the lead were quickly destroyed when Sean Dyche’s men won a penalty in the 91st minute.

Ashley Barnes was clearly brought down in the box by Francis Coquelin and childhood Arsenal fan Andre Gray tucked it away with ease.

Burnley’s equaliser was sure to have a huge impact on the title race, with leaders Chelsea still to play Hull this afternoon.

And Arsenal’s day quickly went from bad to worse as Arsene Wenger was sent off a minute later following his angry reaction.

However, the Frenchman refused to walk completely off the pitch and became embroiled in a shoving match with the fourth official which could result in a two-match ban.

But any punishment is sure to be far from Wenger’s mind after Laurent Koscielny won a controversial penalty in the 95th minute.

Ben Mee was deemed to have caught the defender with a high foot – even though Koscielny was diving for a header and appeared to be initially offside in the first place.

And Alexis Sanchez made sure it was a win to be remembered for the Emirates faithful when he fired in the spot-kick to win the game and close the gap on Chelsea to five points.
