Manchester United star Luke Shaw still ‘struggling’ with fitness problems according to Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho
Shaw missed two months with a groin injury and has suffered with other fitness problems since the start of January
JOSE MOURINHO admits that Luke Shaw is STILL not fit enough to play for Manchester United.
Shaw missed 14 of United's games between late October and January with a groin complaint.
And the former Southampton man has struggled with a string of niggles since.
It was thought that Shaw might be fit enough to return against Stoke today.
But Mourinho says that the 21-year-old will have to bide his time and prove his fitness is up to scratch.
Mourinho said: "You try to have in the squad the players with more minutes, the players in better shape, in better condition.
"In Luke Shaw's case, even in the game against Reading, when he could have started the game and had 90 minutes, in the morning of the game he was ill and not ready to play.
"So even in that match, which could have been good for him, he was not able to play, so he's having a difficult period."
Shaw's future appears up in the air after failing to hold down a spot under Mourinho, who blasted him and Chris Smalling after a defeat at Watford earlier in the season.
But the player's agent insists Shaw is happy and wants to stay at Old Trafford.
