MEMPHIS DEPAY is determined to show what he has learnt from the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United following his move to Lyon.

The 22-year-old has struggled to get game time under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and has completed his £21.7million to the Ligue 1 side.

Mourinho has offered Depay a surprise lifeline at Manchester United after including a £35million first option buy back clause – giving him a route back to Old Trafford.

Speaking on his tough time at Manchester United, Depay said: “You have to adapt and you have to adapt to the new way of playing, to a new team, to a new league.

“Every day I trained with big players like Zlatan, Rooney, like Pogba, Martial. So I learned a lot, of course. If you see where I come from you learn a lot. I’ve put in my pocket, in my bag. Now I have to show it.”

He added: “I just want to show everybody what I’m capable of. I did in the past and I didn’t show it every time at Manchester but I know what I’m capable of.

“If I get the confidence and the rhythm with everybody behind me with the trust in me it will come. I don’t think I have to get revenge on Manchester, I respect them all. They were involved in the deal so they also helped me to get into a better situation.

“It’s not an angry feeling like I want to get revenge on them. I want to do it for myself, I want to score goals and get that feeling back again, to play in a full stadium. I saw the stadium here, it’s a very nice stadium and I’m so excited to play there.”

Lyon boss Bruno Genesio is hoping he can get the best out of Depay in France and are ecstatic to have landed such a big name from Manchester United.

Genesio said: “We focused on Memphis because he corresponds to the style of play we want. It was an extraordinary opportunity for us to get a player of international class from United.

“What we hope for is to get him into the team as quickly as possible, so that he shows all his quality.”
