Sunderland transfer news: David Moyes sensationally reveals Black Cats won’t sign any players who will make a ‘big difference’ this month
DAVID MOYES says even if Sunderland signed any players this month they wouldn’t make a “big difference”.
The beleaguered Black Cats boss has failed to bring in any new arrivals so far in January, admitting funds are “limited with a capital L”.
It means Moyes, whose injury-hit side sit second bottom, has been left looking for free transfers or loan deals.
And the Scot said: “I think I’d be kidding you on if I told you that the players we’re going to bring in during January will make a big difference.
“First of all, we probably couldn’t get that level of player.
“Secondly, we probably wouldn’t have the finances to do that.
“I think to suggest that the players we’ll be bringing in will make a big difference wouldn’t be correct.”
Last season, Sunderland made five January signings, which helped steer Sam Allardyce’s side to safety.
And in a clear message to owner Ellis Short, Moyes said: “I think the players that did come in at the same time for Sunderland last year did make a big difference and did a good job.”
Moyes has 13 first-team players unavailable ahead of tomorrow’s trip to West Brom.
And he added: “I think January was always going to be a difficult month for us.
“We were always going to be down with the players going away to the Africa Cup of Nations, and our injuries at the moment didn’t really look like they were going to come back.”
