Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli in top ten most valuable footballers as Neymar takes crown ahead of Lionel Messi

Stats boffins compile list featuring world's top 100 most expensive names as Barca pal is forced to settle for second

BARCELONA superstar Neymar is the most valuable player in the world.

A study conducted by the CIES Football Observatory claims the Brazilian is worth more than any other footballer in the game – including Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

Figures are calculated using an econometric model which takes the player’s age, performances, contract length and various other factors into account.

And as a result, Neymar should command the highest transfer fee right now at a staggering £217million.

That’s a whole £67m more than Messi, who is second in the list at £150m.

But anyone expecting Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to follow should think again, with sixth place going to none other than Tottenham favourite Harry Kane (£122.4m).

He pips the newest Ballon d’Or winner by a whole £11.2m, with teammate Dele Alli working his way in at ninth with a value of £97m – just £3m behind Juventus whizz Paulo Dybala (£100m).

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid lead the way with nine players included in the top 100, although they are closely chased by rivals Barcelona who boast eight.
