The Belgian international injured his ankle in the 4-0 win against West Brom on Saturday and there are fears it could be serious
TOBY ALDERWEIRELD is confident Spurs will cope without crocked Jan Vertonghen.
Tottenham are sweating on the defender’s fitness after he injured his ankle against West Brom on Saturday.
The club must wait for the swelling to ease before they can properly assess the Belgian, who also missed three months last year with a knee problem.
Spurs will not look to buy in the transfer window and are likely to use Kevin Wimmer and Ben Davies at the back as replacements.
Alderweireld said: “First of all we hope Jan is not injured too long. But if he is injured there are a lot of people who can play in his place and bring the level he brings. People will have to step up.
