Everton transfer news: Ronald Koeman wants Sunderland’s Lamine Kone and is prepared to send James McCarthy the other way

EVERTON boss Ronald Koeman is ready to sell James McCarthy to Sunderland — and wants Lamine Kone to come the other way.

Midfielder McCarthy, 26, will struggle for a game after the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United and the Republic of Ireland star can go for about £10million.

Black Cats boss David Moyes wants McCarthy but will have to make it a full-time swoop as he already has the maximum two Premier League loan players.

McCarthy would need persuading struggling Sunderland is a good move for him but he has been available for some time and there are no other major takers.

And if Moyes can come up with the right deal it will go ahead with centre- half Kone, 27, heading to Goodison as part of the package.

Kone is with the Ivory Coast in the African Nations Cup but may get the call for talks and a medical from Everton, who wanted to sign him in the summer.

Koeman is also ready to sell right-back Tyias Browning, 22, to the highest bidder before his contract runs out.

Browning has been offered to several Championship clubs, who plan to watch him play for the Under-23s.

And Everton will send Welsh Under-21 defender Gethin Jones to Barnsley on loan — with a view to a sale.

Tykes manager Paul Heckingbottom has a crisis at full-back and Jones will earn a full-time deal at the Championship club if he does well.
