Hammers still keen to sign Scottish midfielder as they look to reverse season of disappointment at Olympic Stadium

WEST HAM have increased their off for Robert Snodgrass to £5million as they try to tempt Hull into selling one of their best players.

The Hammers have returned with a second offer after seeing an initial bid of £3m rejected by the relegation strugglers last week.

West Ham want Snodgrass to come into the club as they seek to reverse the slump in form which has seen than have a disappointing first season at the Olympic Stadium.

They see the 29-year-old Scottish international as the ideal type of player to replace Dimtri Payet, who has told the club he wants to leave.

Italian international Simone Zaza has been shipped back to Juventus after failing to score a goal in a loan spell that had been expected to lead to a permanent move.

Argentinian forward Jonathan Callieri is also on the way out after making no impact since his arrival while Gokan Tore is only still at the club after suffering a long-term injury.

There are also long-term doubts over the future of Dimitri Payet at the club, amid interest from former side Marseille and being dragged in for a dressing down by boss Slaven Bilic over his poor attitude this season.

Snodgrass is contracted to Hull until the summer of 2018 and is regarded as one of the key players in the club's fight to stay in the Premier League.

But the chance to leave a club scrapping for their lives to one that has ambitions of moving forward into the top half of the table is one that is hard to turn down for the player.

West Ham have been one of the most active sides in the top flight during the transfer window, having made bids for four players already.

They hope to complete the signing of Brentford striker Scott Hogan this week after upping their bid to £15m to persuade the Bees to sell.

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe was the subject of a £6m bid, and the Hammers have this week offered Southampton £4m for unsettled captain Jose Fonte.
