Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho was sent off after half an hour for a two-footed tackle, but Guardiola went on the attack after the break and was rewarded when Gael Clichy opened the scoring,

Aguero then put City two-up before another blunder from hapless keeper Claudio Bravo gifted Ben Mee a goal and a way back into the game.

But City held out to secure a much-needed three points that lifted them back up to third in the Premier League.

FACTS, STATS, GOALS AND LOLS

  • The players emerged from a different tunnel in the corner at the start of the game - City are making a new glass tunnel down the middle so punters can see what is going on in there.
  • City are unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League games against newly-promoted sides - winning 25 and drawing three.
  • In the 8 full seasons the Arabs have been in charge, City have never been lower or further from the top of the table at the halfway stage than they are now.

  • However Burnley had not lost any of their Premier League games here - drawing both of them.
  • The Clarets away form is the worst in the league this season though - just one point so far - which came across town at Old Trafford in October.
  • That's three sendings off in the space of six weeks for Fernandinho - one of them retrospective - across two different competitions. His challenge on Gudmundsson was reckless.
  • Guardiola reacted by whipping off his bench jacket and hurling it to the floor - the Catalan looks like he is starting to feel the heat.

  • Lee Mason was at the centre of controversy across town at Old Trafford on Saturday when he disallowed a goal from Ibrahimovic - now he's upset the other lot as well.
  • That's seven red cards for City this season in all competitions - they won't win anything unless they can keep 10 men on the park more often.
  • Guardiola had sprung a surprise by leaving David Silva and Sergio Aguero on the bench - they were both back on at the break with City in big trouble.
  • Gael Clichy doesn't get many goals - he gets even fewer with his right peg - but what a big one that could be for Pep Guardiola and City.
  • Aguero's goal puts him level with Colin Bell into joint third on City's all-time list of goalscorers with 153.
  • Ben Mee - who will be credited with Burnley's first goal - was on the books here at City as a kid so that will have been a nice moment for him.
