"He was nominated for the Ballon d'Or last season, he was player of the season. The Messi's and Ronaldo's are up there up every year. This is the difficult second album for Mahrez and he's failing miserably to try and help his team. His manager's saying he's not stimulated enough. It's damning to his character.

And ex-England man Wright believes last season's Foxes enforcer N'Golo Kante is a massive miss for the team.

He added: "I look at N'Golo Kante and think the type of player he is, if he was still at Leicester, he'd still be at it and he wouldn't be taking this season off. Mahrez is nowhere near it.

"He doesn't seem willing enough to go through the treacle and molasses he's running through at the minute! He's not Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption! He doesn't want to crawl through the pipe to get through the other end!"
