Both British managers face huge tasks of rebuilding their sides to lift them back up to the Premiership

LEEDS and Aston Villa are a couple of restoration jobs Bob the Builder would think twice about taking on.

But Steve Bruce and Garry Monk are the British bosses who are saying: ‘Yes we can’.

When they meet at Villa Park tonight though, the pair will be scrabbling for Championship play-off spots.

Villa boss Bruce, 56 on Saturday, is turning around a club that finished bottom of the Premier League last season with a pathetic 17 points.

He is looking for a sixth consecutive home win — and revenge for a 2-0 defeat at Elland Road this month.

Bruce declared: “Aston Villa v Leeds for me should be in the big league.

“To beat Leeds, who are confident, a good side — the best I have seen from them for a few years — will be a big challenge. It will be tough.

"I thought there was nothing in it up there. It should be a really big game with a big atmosphere again.”

Both outfits are on their ninth boss in six years.

Jonathan Fear of the Vital Villa website believes Bruce’s straight-talking approach is just what the club need.

Fear said: “I believe Bruce to be a proper man and a proper manager.

“We needed a no-nonsense character at Villa, we’ve needed one for years.”

Monk, 37, is having an even bigger impact since his controversial dismissal by Swansea saw him arrive at Elland Road last summer.

After a rocky start, Leeds are up to fifth spot winning eight of their last ten.

Daz King of the Vital Leeds United site said: “Massive strides have been made to unite everyone. Leeds fans can finally see the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel.”
