Jose Mourinho held secret pep talk with Sir Alex Ferguson to get Manchester United career back on track after poor Old Trafford start

The Portuguese boss has been on a hot streak at Old Trafford after being urged by Sir Alex to rediscover his old Mourinho magic

SIR ALEX FERGUSON told Jose Mourinho to go back to being the Special One in crunch talks.

Fergie gave Mourinho a pep talk amid fears he had lost his way  just months into his Manchester United reign.

United are unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions and outclassed Sunderland 3-1 on Boxing Day.

Fergie urged United boss Mourinho to return to his ruthless best during frank talks aimed at kick-starting his Old Trafford career.

The Red Devils won 13 Prem titles under Ferguson and the Scot is widely recognised as the godfather of British managers.

Mourinho picked his brains about getting  the best out of Michael Carrick — one of Ferguson’s key signings.

The midfielder, 35, has started United’s last five Prem matches,  resulting in four wins and a draw.

Fergie also encouraged the Special One to do it his way and ignore the critics.

He is desperate for Mour­inho to succeed after David Moyes — his own choice as  successor — was fired.

And Mourinho’s respect for Fergie is such  that he accepted the Scot’s words of wisdom during those dark early days.
