DAVID LUIZ re-signed for Chelsea because he wanted to become a leader.

Luiz rejoined the Blues from Paris St-Germain for £34million in August after two years in France.

And his influence is certainly showing on and off the pitch.

The Brazilian international has attracted his fair share of critics over the years, but since returning to Stamford Bridge has excelled at the back.

Chelsea have been on an outstanding winning run and made it 11 straight Premier League victories with a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday as their 3-5-2 formation came up trumps once again.

Antonio Conte’s side enjoyed another clean sheet – they have conceded just two goals in their fantastic winning run – and Luiz has admitted how much he has needed to step up, particularly with John Terry struggling for first team action.

He told: “I love the club, because I had the opportunity, because I think it was my purpose to come back.

“Decisions in football happen quickly. When Chelsea came to me and said they wanted me to come back I was happy because I had a special moment here – one of the best in my career. I won the Champions League, the Europa League.
