Manchester United transfer news: Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho makes Victor Lindelof top target – but he’ll have to be patient
Benfica's Swedish defender is wanted by the Red Devils but will not be allowed to leave until the summer
JOSE MOURINHO has made Benfica’s Victor Lindelof his No1 defensive target – but must wait until the summer to buy him.
Manchester United have already enquired about the availability of the Swedish centre-half and have been told there is no chance of any deal happening next month, according to the Mirror.
The Portuguese side are still in the Champions League and want to keep hold of their prized-asset to help their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.
As reported earlier this month, the Red Devils have been making regular checks on the 22-year-old.
Mourinho is desperate to shake up his defence and would ideally like to do it in the upcoming transfer window.
He has already had a public fall-out with Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw after questioning their desire to play.
Meanwhile, summer signing Eric Bailly has struggled with injury.
That has left Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo as his first choice pairing.
Benfica and Lindelof will take on German giants Borussia Dortmund in the next round of the Champions League.
Manchester United head to the Hawthorns this weekend to tackle West Brom.
Mourinho will be hoping to build on the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace against the Baggies.
