WAYNE ROONEY smashes his boot against the Crystal Palace dugout in rage after not being awarded a penalty.

The Manchester United skipper was hammering his footwear but stopped when boss Jose Mourinho turned around.

Raging Roo was fuming with referee Craig Pawson for not awarding the Red Devils a spot kick in the 2-1 win over Alan Pardew's side.

He thought Palace's Joe Ledley handled the ball in the area when the score was still 1-1.

The shout came before England's all-time leading goalscorer was subbed off with ten minutes to go.

Mourinho denied there was any bust-up between the two of them and explained why Rooney was so angry.

He said: "He was angry with a possible penalty.

"He was complaining with the fourth official on the bench, he was really upset with it, but even at 1-1 I told him: 'Forget it, let’s forget it'.

"I didn’t see [the handball]. The only thing I can say is the referee is good, he’s good.

"He is one of the good young referees and I like his work, if he made mistakes, unlucky for him and unlucky for us but he is a very good referee and you have to support.

"Like Robert Madley against Tottenham, it's a big game for a young referee, so it’s a good opportunity."
