Watch the tear-jerking moment Colombia plane crash survivor, journalist Rafael Henzel, is reunited with his family

Brazilian was one of just six survivors on board the plane where 71 people, including most of the Chapecoense team, died

THIS is the tear-jerking moment a journalist who almost died in the tragic Colombia plane crash is reunited with his family.

Brazilian journalist Rafael Henzel was one of only six people who survived the horror collision in which 71 people, many of them footballers from the Brazilian team Chapecoense, lost their lives.

And this week he was finally reunited with his young son in an emotional moment that was captured on camera.

The journalist broke down when his 11-year-old boy Octavio ran onto the plane which returned him home after he had been in hospital for two weeks.

The young lad burst onto the plane just minutes after it landed in the airport of the city of Chapeco, in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina and enveloped his beloved father in a massive bear hug.

The pair were in tears as they were reunited, with both realising just how lucky he is to be alive.

Dad Rafael, wearing a red cap, is so overcome with emotion that he remains in his seat and tears can be seen streaming from his eyes.

The journalist was transferred by plane from Medellin, Colombia, alongside footballer Alan Rushel, another survivor of the plane crash.

The video was recorded by the Minister of Health, Edgar Tolini, showing the heart-warming moment with the young boy seen to be wearing a Chapecoense shirt in tribute as he clutches a picture of his dad.

His mum, Jussara Ersico, who had travelled with her husband from Colombia after he was hospitalised for 15 days, can be seen watching on in tears as her two boys see each other for the first time since the horrific incident which shocked the world.

Jussara said: "Rafael was excited to hug his son and feel his heart. We are very happy to come back home."

The journalist and the footballer were transferred to the hospital in the city of Chapeco for check-ups following the flight home, but it is reported that they have made full recoveries and will not need any further operations.

Fellow survivor, footballer Helio Neto, is due to travel home to Brazil soon.
