West Ham have been desperate to tie down the England Under-20 defender with the two Manchester giants circling ready to pounce if Oxford opted to leave the club he joined following his release from Spurs in 2011.

The East London club are expected to announce the deal on Oxford's 18th birthday this Friday.

SunSport revealed last month both parties were close to agreeing a deal, but the youngster had not put pen to paper looking for assurances he would get enough game time.

Oxford has been convinced by Hammers boss Slaven Bilic his future lies in East London after making the breakthrough at the start of the last season with stand out performances away at Arsenal and Liverpool.

The youngster has not featured for the Hammers since the Europa League draw with Romanian outfit Astra Giurgiu in August.

Oxford has been out of action since November with an ankle injury suffered in training, but the defender is expected to be drafted back into the first team squad when he's fit and now a new contract has been signed.
