FLOP SCOTCH

Manchester United transfer news: Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin will be allowed to leave for Everton in January with neither player starting a league game this season

MEMPHIS DEPAY and Morgan Schneiderlin are to be allowed to end their Old Trafford nightmares if they want to leave for Everton in January.

The talented pair have not started a Premier League game under Jose Mourinho this season, after having been signed by Louis van Gaal the summer of 2015.

Depay, particularly, has been a major flop at United after failing to impress following a high-profile £25million switch from PSV Eindhoven.

His decision making and work rate have regularly been called into question, while his ability to be able to link up with team-mates has also been found wanting.

In fairness to the Dutchman, he is only 22 and still learning his game, but many feel that he has not made the expected progress at Manchester United.

A loan switch, if any, is expected for Depay, with a regular run of games high on his priority list having described himself as "like a loaded gun" and ready to play.

Meanwhile, Schneiderlin has never been in favour under Mourinho, after playing 39 times for Van Gaal last term.

, Everton boss Ronald Koeman still likes Schneiderlin, after the pair worked together at Southampton before the Frenchman left 18 months ago.

Schneiderlin has been accepted by the Old Trafford crowd, in part due to his down-to-earth fiancee Camille Sold, who has worked at the Adidas store in Manchester.

But the Frenchman has never stamped his authority on a regular midfield starting berth.

And as SunSport's Neil Custis reported today, Mourinho will be happy to let any of his stars leave in January, if they do not fancy playing to his methods.

Mourinho said: "More than listen to offers I am always ready to listen to the players themselves.

"So any player who knocks on my door and is not happy and wants to move, when the offers are correct, I will never stop a player from leaving, even if it is to a rival."

The Portuguese also cited how he sold Juan Mata to United in January 2014 when he was in his last stint as Chelsea boss.

He added: "What I can say is that I am happy with the squad I have.

"I would like my squad to be my squad until the end of the season and I am not going to any player to say 'you are going to leave' because I am not happy or I don't like him.

"I'm happy with the players I have, even with players that are not having many chances."
