Manchester City to go head-to-head with Barcelona for Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Dayot Upamecano

Teenage central defender has become a first team regular making 18 appearances in Austria's top flight

DAYOT UPAMECANO is making shock waves in Austria after becoming a first-team regular for Red Bull Salzburg.

So much so that Barclona AND Manchester City are both keeping tabs on his progress and could launch an offer in the January transfer window.

It's no surprise the two cash-rich clubs are interested in the 18-year-old as he is being branded as one of the most promising central defenders in European football.

Upamecano has represented France at Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s and at Under-19s level as he continues to work his way towards the first team.

The young centre half is incredibly comfortable in possession and has even been used in midfield by Salzburg boss Oscar Garcia.

Meaning he would fit in comfortable at Barcelona and under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad - whose style of play is all about keeping the ball.

But Barca are believed to have an advantage over City in this transfer battle after the young Frenchman is believed to be a huge fan of the Catalan giants.
