Celtic charged by Uefa in wake of crowd disturbances during 1-1 Champions League draw against Manchester City

Hoops secured good result with admirable performance at the Etihad but it was overshadowed by squabbling supporters

UEFA have charged Celtic after crowd disturbances marred their Champions League clash with Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Hoops produced a fine performance to earn an admirable 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

But Celtic’s point was overshadowed by brawling supporters setting off fireworks.

And the case has now been handed over to UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, with an outcome expect on February 23 next year.

Greater Manchester Police arrested 14 people throughout the day even though ‘the large part both sets of fans were well behaved’.

Meanwhile, a supporter has been released with a £90 fine after throwing a hamburger at a police horse.

GMP decided to tweet the event, much the amusement of their followers, saying: “Celtic fan arrested for throwing a hamburgers at a police horse in Piccadilly Gardens. Male started kicking about in the van! #nightinacell.”
