Colombia plane crash: Danilo’s mother comforts emotional journalist who lost colleagues in disaster

THE mother of Chapecoense goalkeeper Danilo had to console a journalist as he interviewed her in a heart-rending scene.

Danilo was one of the tragic victims when a plane carrying the Brazilian team plunged into the mountains surrounding Medellin last week.

Experts believe doomed flight LMI-2933 ran out of fuel, leading to the deaths of 71 people.

Danilo's story was particularly tragic.

Reports in Brazil suggested he managed to call his wife to tell her he was alive, before later passing away in hospital.

Survivor Alan Ruschel posted pics on social media of him and his pal before the plane came down.

Thousands of fans filled Chapecoense's stadium on Friday as the coffins of players and journalists on board the flight slowly wound through the city and into their home ground.

When Danilo's mother interviewed by a journalist ahead of the event, she ended up having to comfort him.

She asked: "Excuse me, can I ask a question: how do you, the press, feel at losing so many friends there (in Colombia), can you answer?"

Struggling to find a response, the reporter managed to say "no".

She added: "Can I give a hug, for all of the press?"

The pair then shared an emotional embrace after she wiped the tears away from the reporter's face, before they broke into tears in each other's arms.
