The scoring of a goal should be a thing of beauty, a fleeting moment to be savoured, enjoyed and remembered.

It’s not really the time for ugly, brutal vandalism (or at least it shouldn’t be).

But that’s what happened when Newcastle’s Temuri Ketsbaia scored a last-minute winner against Bolton Wanderers back in 1998.

Angered by being kept out of the Magpies starting line-up, the Georgian whipped his shirt off and threw it into the crowd and then lay waste first to a McDonald’s advert behind the goal and then to an adidas one – the same company who just happened to make the Magpies’ shirt too.

He even tried to chuck his boots into the stands – but couldn’t get them off.

"Sometimes when you score a goal and there is some disappointment and you express yourself in the wrong way. It was a bad moment for me,” he said later. “Even when you score a goal, even at that moment, sometimes bad things can happen - not bad things, I just lost my control.

"I did much better things in Newcastle, and people only remember this one!"
