Bayern Munich transfer news: Arjen Robben’s father and agent confident of new deal for son
The winger's current deal expires next summer but both parties are confident a new deal can be agreed to extend the flying Dutchman's stay at the Allianz Arena
ARJEN Robben is confident he will agree a new deal at Bayern Munich sooner rather than later.
The 32-year-old winger's current deal expires at the end of the season, but he is not expecting talks to drag on as he has no intention of leaving the Bundesliga champions.
Reports from Germany suggest the main issue is the length of Robben's new deal, his agent and father - Hans - is pushing for more than a one-year extension for the Dutch international.
French winger Franck Ribery has recently signed a one-year extension to his current deal that was due to expire next summer.
Hans Robben revealed to Kicker magazine he will not be advising his son to accept a similar deal signed by 33-year-old Ribery.
"I'm not interested in what others do, I'm only interested in Arjen, we're still in talks and there's nothing new to report." he said.
Like most big clubs over the past two decades, Bayern have been reluctant to offer players aged over 30 contracts of more than 12 months.
Asked whether the length of the offer was holding up the 32-year-old signing, Hans Robben said: "Yes, we are talking about that too"
"Arjen can stay healthy for two or three more years." he added.
Robben joined the Bundesliga giants from Real Madrid in 2009 and has gone on to win five Bundesliga titles, Champions League and World Club Cup in 2013.
The Dutchman starred in Bayern's 3-1 win at Mainz on Friday evening and was asked about his ongoing contract saga.
"My father is ready [for a talk], he likes to drink coffee with Mr. Rummenigge.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is optimistic Robben will follow in the footsteps of team-mate Franck Ribery by signing a new deal.
"There was a talk with Arjen's father, which is his agent. And the father said, he [Robben] wants to stay healthy until Christmas. Then there will be talks.
"I think he wants to extend his contract and we are as well interested, Arjen will play for Bayern next season. Rummenigge said.
