Brazilian FA president Marco Polo del Nero had asked that the fixture with Atletico Mineiro on December 11 be fulfilled.

But Atletico president Daniel Nepomuceno insisted: "Atletico will not play that last game. We respect the pain. It's not the moment to ask this of the players."

Earlier, Chapecoense previous vice-president Ivan Tozzo said: “I spoke with president Marco Polo del Nero and he told me the game against Atletico Mineiro, which is our next game, we’re going to have a big event in Chapeco, it is going to be scheduled.

“I replied to him: ‘But we don’t have 11 players to put on the field!’

“He said to me: ‘You guys have it. You have an Under-20s side. Play the players that are recovering from injury, which is five or six players, and another who is ready to play, and then complete the team with juniors.

Twitter reacted to that with Chapecoense sympathisers laying into the Brazilian FA, stating ironically: "You have to have a big celebration. Pick the youth-team players."

Colombian authorities say evidence is growing that the plane ran out of fuel as it tried to land.

The plane had no fuel on impact, an official said, corroborating audio of the pilot asking to land because of a fuel shortage and electric failure.

The capital Bogota was mentioned on the flight plan as a possible refuelling stop, but the plane did not land there.

The plane plunged into a mountainside near Medellin and only six of the 77 people on board survived.
