HE has maintained a smile even through the most difficult of times at Manchester United.
And after making his first appearance for the Red Devils under Jose Mourinho last night in the 4-1 EFL Cup win against West Ham, the German midfielder was understandably delighted.
Writing on Twitter, he said: "Amazing evening with a perfect result. Thanks for the warm welcome at Old Trafford."

Unsurprisingly the tweet, that was accompanied with a photo of him replacing Anthony Martial, the two embracing in a warm hug, was retweeted over 13,000 times and favourited an incredible 26,000 times.

The crowd inside Old Trafford went wild as he warmed up, and it was even more deafening as he came on for Anthony Martial in the 86th minute.
He had not appeared for United since March 20 this year, in the Manchester derby last season under previous manager Louis van Gaal.
German World Cup winner Schweinsteiger has been badly out of favour since boss Mourinho took charge, and was made to train alone for much of this season before recently being allowed back into the fold.

But in the absence of Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba, he came on and made an impact, shooting wide from 25 yards out.
He then made the run and played the ball into Ander Herrera who in turn passed it to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his side's fourth in the last minute as Jose Mourinho's side convincingly won 4-1.
The Swedish enigma bagged two goals, as did Martial. Former Manchester United youth product Ashley Fletcher bagged the Hammers' solitary goal.
Schweinsteiger was brought back into the United squad for the 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham on Sunday.
It was the first time the veteran had been involved on a matchday since Jose Mourinho took charge at Old Trafford - but he did not play.
