Initially the death toll was reported at 76 and if those figures are right it now stands at 77.

Along with team-mate Alan Ruschel, 27, Danilo was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to hospital.

He is reported to have survived the initial accident but sadly died in hospital. Reports in his native Brazil claim he did get a chance to speak to his wife before passing away.

Ruschel arrived conscious and speaking and is currently recovering in hospital.

He had earlier posted pictures of himself and Danilo on social media from inside the aircraft and the pair appeared to be in good spirits.

They were travelling to Medellin to play Atletico Nacional in the final of the Copa Sudamericana – South America’s second-most important cup competition.

It was meant to be the highlight of a fairy-tale period in the club’s history, having been promoted to Brazil’s top flight for the first time in their history in 2014.

All football in South America has now been suspended until further notice

Chapecoense issued a brief statement, that read: "May God be with our athletes, officials, journalists and other guests travelling with our delegation."

Danilo was with the club since 2014 and made 66 appearances.
