Schweinsteiger was brought back into the United squad for the 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham on Sunday.
It was the first time the veteran had been involved on a matchday since Jose Mourinho took charge at Old Trafford.
After his snub at United, Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move to America as a host of MLS sides are linked with an interest in the World Cup winning-captain.
But Hoeness, who knows the star well, dismissed those claims.
“From what I have heard, Basti’s on his way out of football. I know him well and I doubt he’s still got the fire left in him for one final major challenge.
“After such a brilliant career, a player like him shouldn’t see out his career in a place like America. For me, America simply isn’t an alternative for a player of his calibre. As far as I know, he’s committed to a massive farewell game at FC Bayern.
“I would do that but then I would retire.”
Hoeness then went on to talk about Schweinsteiger’s personal life, saying he hopes the ace would soon ‘start a family’ with his tennis star wife Ana Ivanovic.
He added: “He’s lucky to have such a beautiful wife and should set different priorities in life.
“I wish he would concentrate more on starting a family.”
