Swansea City: Premier League strugglers put to shame by Gambian third-division outfit with same name

LUCK appears to have run out at Swansea City this season.

But for one team in Gambia, the Welsh outfit have proved to be nothing short of finding a four-leaf clover.

Like the Swans in the Premier League, village side Farato Fula Kundaowe were rock-bottom of their table before a player saw the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Leon Britton on TV.

They quickly adopted Swansea's name, even stencilling the letters on to their red shirts.

And since the change, the tinpot team have gone on to win an incredible two trophies.

They are now in the third division of their league and plan on gaining promotion - which could be the real Swansea City in a couple of years if they're not careful.

Coach Abdoulie Sowe said: "We have a very good future team and a lot of really good young players that led us to winning the Junior Championship.

"It's a shame Swansea in Wales aren't doing so well. We hope they can improve like us."

Swansea City have since aided their Gambian namesake's cause.

The Premier League club are sending over 24 full Swansea kits for the African side to wear.

Spokesman Jordan Harries said: "We heard about Farato Fula Kundaowe and were impressed by their incredible form.

"We heard that Abdoulie and his side were short of equipment and kit so we've arranged for all 24 of his players to be sent a full Swans kit to play in this season, as well as some kit for Abdoulie and his coaches.

"His side are currently playing their pre-season and they're continuing their winning ways. This weekend they played two games in two days, winning both of them."
