Now the 84-cap France international has named his best team-mate XI...

In goal he has plumped for his former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech - now plying his trade for Arsenal.

The Czech stopper played for 11 seasons in west London - with Gallas there for just two of them.

In defence, he's opted for a back-three combination of French international team-mates Lilian Thuram and Marcel Desailly - withe the latter also a colleague at Stamford Bridge - as well as John Terry.

In midfield, Claude Makelele and Patrick Vieira take the holding midfield slots, with Michael Essien, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Gareth Bale in more advanced positions.

Gallas played alongside Vieira at France, Makelele at Chelsea - where he wrote the book on the holding midfield position - Bale at Spurs, Zidane with France and Essien also in west London.

Up front he's gone for France and Arsenal man Thierry Henry, along with Didier Drogba - a long-term team-mate of his at the Blues.

It's fair to say the line-up chosen is a terrifying-looking animal, strong in defence and potent in attack.

Gallas enjoyed an incredible career if his colleagues count for anything...
