Why Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois collects a cool £100,000 every time he makes a save
Belgian stopper has amazingly faced only 17 shots in the Premier League this season in the Blues' top of the table run
Chelsea’s 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough saw them leapfrog both Liverpool and Manchester City, but Courtois was only needed to make one save from Alvaro Negredo - and that was in the 78th minute.
In Chelsea’s last three games, Courtois has only had to make two saves, which has helped keep his tally down to 17 shots in the Premier League this season.
This is the joint fewest of any goalkeeper, alongside Southampton’s Fraser Forster.
One of the key factors behind the Blues' great run has been manager Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 system.
Said Courtois after the Middlesbrough game: "Obviously it’s made a big change and it’s difficult for other teams to cope with it.
"Middlesbrough changed to three at the back towards the end of the game which made it harder for us because finding a free man was more difficult.
"It’s good for us to always have a spare man, we created a lot of chances and we should have scored a second goal."
Courtois' next test will see him trying to keep out Harry Kane when Chelsea entertain London rivals Tottenham on Saturday.
