Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Marcos Alonso says Blues have advantage as Spurs face Monaco in midweek game

MARCOS ALONSO doesn't expect Chelsea's impressive six-match winning streak in the Premier League to come to an end against their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino side travel to the south of France to take on AS Monaco in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday and the Blue's defender believes this could help his side keep their stats intact.

Speaking after Sunday's 1-0 win over Middlesbrough - which saw Chelsea make it six wins and six clean sheets in a row - Alonso said: “Well, [Tottenham] in three days you can recover, very well, but maybe it can be an advantage for us.

“We have to think, game by game, and now we have Tottenham at home. It is going to be a massive three points for us and we have to rest now and then start getting ready for Saturday.

“Lots of people [say how big this game is], more than the players - it is the fans, [who tell me]. I know they always remind me that this London derby is special and hopefully we can get the three points on Saturday.

"I don't like statistics [about unbeaten runs], but hopefully we can keep winning at home against them. I had a couple of chances score [against Middlesbrough],” he added.

“I have to score more in the next games. I am getting the chances and, if we keep playing like this, hopefully more goals will come.

Since joining from Fiorentina over the summer the Spaniard has made seven league appearances in Antonio Conte's all-new 3-4-3 formation and has been instrumental in Chelsea's defensive prowess.

Alonso said: “[Getting into a top-class team] is something I have been working for. I am very happy to be here, helping the team and now I am just looking forward to next week, another tough game.

“The most important thing is the team is doing well. I think we are playing good football. I'm happy to be there helping the team every week. We just have to keep working hard to stay up there.

“I think with the players we have now and the way we are playing and the way we go into the game with the right focus and concentration, it's very hard to beat us at the moment," added the former Bolton defender.

"If we keep playing like this then it will be tough for other teams. We just have to work hard and keep doing the hard work during the week.”

Spurs secured a last-gasp 3-2 win over West Ham at White Hart Lane last Saturday as Harry Kane struck twice in quick succession.

The North London outfit are now 12 games unbeaten since the start of the season but they haven’t beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1990.
