Gareth Southgate to be interviewed for the permanent England job on Monday as FA chief Martin Glenn admits the interim manager is in ‘strong position’
Ex-Three Lions defender is favourite after his unbeaten four-game stint - but other candidates might also be interviewed
GARETH SOUTHGATE is set to be interviewed for the England manager’s job on Monday.
The former Three Lions centre-back has been in interim charge since Sam Allardyce left the role in late September.
Southgate led the national side to a four-match unbeaten spell, ending with Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Spain at Wembley.

Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn revealed yesterday that Southgate has made it clear that he wants the job on a permanent basis.
And the FA are set to hold further talks with the 46-year-old at the start of next week.
But Glenn also hinted the FA may wish to speak to other candidates and stressed “this interview process has to be discreet’’ — but he also indicated Southgate was “in a strong position” for the role.
Glenn added: “Not just the facts of the last four games have shown a lot of signs of encouragement but the fact he’s worked in the FA for the last couple of years.”
Southgate was England Under-21s boss before stepping up to replace Allardyce following his departure after just one game in charge.
Big Sam was recorded making controversial comments to undercover reporters from the Daily Telegraph.

England did not concede in any of Southgate’s three World Cup qualifiers.
But they then let slip a two-goal lead in Tuesday’s friendly with Spain.
Glenn said: “He’s run the Under-21s well, he understands how the international set-up works so we’re going to be having discussions with him in the coming weeks.
“We want to understand what his learnings are, what his ambition for the England team is and really, really understand that well and then we’ll take a considered view.’’
Southgate registered two wins over Malta and Scotland but drew 0-0 in Slovenia last month.
