Wayne Rooney: Manchester United captain issues apology after being pictured drunk at wedding
ENGLAND captain Wayne Rooney has issued a grovelling apology after he was pictured drunk at a wedding following the 3-0 win over Scotland.
The Manchester United star was snapped at the bash at The Grove Hotel - where he was said to be "s***-faced" and "not a pretty sight".
A spokesman told the Press Association: "Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published today.
"Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.
"Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise.
"He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures."
However, the Manchester United star's statement appears to have been in vain, with Gareth Southgate set to strip him of the England captaincy.

Rooney was said to be "paralytic" after partying until 5am, with eye-witnesses claiming he could barely stand by the end having sunk "glass after glass" of red wine.
A wedding source told The Sun: “Wayne went into the wedding with Jagielka and got absolutely plastered.
“He couldn’t string a sentence together and was falling over like the ‘comedy drunk’ – no-one could believe this was the England captain.
“He was out of his head sinking glass after glass of red wine.
“The pictures were taken in the early hours and everyone carried on drinking after that.”
United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be furious with FA over the 31-year-old's binge.
The Portuguese is angry that members of the backroom staff were also present.
Another eyewitness said: “Wayne was in the bar with members of the FA, drinking beer and red wine.
“His speech was slurred, his lips were red with wine and his eyes were red.
