A supporter’s group posted a photo on Instagram reading: “Patiently waiting the return of Frank Lampard.” And the Chelsea replied via their official Instagram account: “Hang in there!”

The Blues are understood to be keen on bringing their all-time leading goalscorer back in some capacity.

Lampard, 38, has been linked with a coaching role, while he could also return as an ambassador for the club.

The former England midfield man made 31 appearances for New York, scoring 15 goals and chipping in with four assists.

After revealing he will not be extending his stay, he said: “I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years.
