Steven Gerrard: LA Galaxy confirm Liverpool legend has ended MLS career but he’s not retiring just yet

LA GALAXY have confirmed that Steven Gerrard has left the club on a free transfer.
The Liverpool legend's MLS contract expired at the end of the season and he won't be returning to California for the new campaign.
Gerrard racked up an impressive five goals and 14 assists after making 34 appearances during his 18-month spell.

The former England international chose Galaxy over a number of foreign sides when he ended his Anfield career and admits he’s ready to continue playing before moving into the world of coaching.
Gerrard said: “It’s been a fantastic life experience for me. I was at Liverpool for a long time and comfortable. I’ve learnt a lot off the coaches and team-mates.
"I’m going back to England to live but it’s not the end of me in football terms. I’m sure I’ll be back involved in the game somewhere along the line.

“I’ve got options on the pitch and off. I’ve got some thinking to do but I’m not ready to make a decision. I’m going to go home with my family and decide what is the best next challenge for me.”
Reflecting on his journey with Galaxy, Gerrard added: “When I left Liverpool, I came to Los Angeles with the goal of helping the Galaxy lift another MLS Cup.
“I am of course disappointed to have not achieved that objective, but I can look back at my time at the club with pride at what we accomplished, including two straight playoff appearances and countless memorable moments on the pitch.
“As someone who spent the whole of their career in Liverpool, it has been an incredible experience to come to Los Angeles and play for the LA Galaxy.
“I am excited to see this league and this great club continue to grow. I am now looking forward to spending time with my family as I consider the next stage of my career.”
Gerrard isn’t the only Premier League icon to end his MLS spell in recent times, with Chelsea hero Frank Lampard departing New York City last week.
And the Champions League winner is sure to have a plethora of options on the table if he decides to continue playing.
Former boss Brendan Rodgers has been strongly tipped to bring Gerrard to Celtic this winter.
There is also interest from old gaffer Rafa Benitez at Newcastle, while the Chinese Super League could provide one final pay-day.
