Wayne Rooney: England and Manchester United skipper back at Carrington as he fights to be fit for weekend showdown with Arsenal

WAYNE ROONEY is back in Manchester following his England disappointment.

The Three Lions skipper, 32, misses out on the friendly against Spain through injury due to what boss Gareth Southgate called a 'minor issue'.

Last night, SunSport exclusively revealed how Rooney was accused of being 's***-faced' at a wedding following the Wembley triumph over Scotland on Friday night.

An eyewitness at The Grove hotel in Watford said: “Wayne was in the bar with members of the FA, drinking beer and red wine.

“His speech was slurred, his lips were red with wine and his eyes were red.

“At midnight he was asked if he would come and say hello to guests at a private wedding party.

“He posed for photos, chatted with the bride and had plenty more to drink.

“I can only conclude he was celebrating the win against Scotland.

“He was really s***-faced."

He was spotted leaving the United training complex at Carrington this morning in a beige 4x4 and will want to put himself in contention to face the Gunners on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho is sweating on the fitness of England's record goalscorer, whose form has suffered since a torturous Euro 2016 campaign, which has seen him lose his place for both club and country.

Southgate has kept faith with his skipper and has featured him in each game of his tenure so far.

But Rooney has two goals in his last 19 appearances and his career at Old Trafford is in serious threat, despite having three-and-a-half years left on his current deal.

Jordan Henderson has the armband whilst Rooney sits the game out with the Spaniards nursing a number of injures themselves.

United face Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime looking to build on their 3-1 win at Swansea before the international break, whilst the Gunners will want to regain top spot from free-scoring Liverpool.

Rooney has twelve goals against Arsene Wenger's side in his career and would relish the chance to bounce back from recent troubles - but looks unlikely to feature.

Rooney has since issued a grovelling apology after more leaked photos showed him partying late into Saturday morning.
