Newcastle United news: Magpies hold talks over possible return to sponsorship by Brown Ale
NEWCASTLE UNITED are reported to be in talks with Newcastle Brown Ale about a return to being the Championship club's main sponsor again.
So far it seems the Magpies have been unable to agree a deal with Brown Ale’s owners Heineken.
But insiders say United will keep negotiating, mindful that the previous era when Newcastle Brown Ale adorned United’s shirts for a decade from 1990 to 2000 was extremely popular.

Newcastle are looking for a new sponsor for 2017/18 because their £9million deal with Wonga is about to expire.

Newcastle’s history with Brown Ale for the beer sponsored United during Kevin Keegan’s successful stint in charge of the Entertainers when the likes of Alan Shearer were on board.
And, according to the The Sunday Mirror, Brown Ale is enjoying a revival of its own following a successful relaunch of the drink in draft form.
St James’ Park is still has connections with the Breweries, with the old Blue Star still prominent on the old building - now Sandman Signature Hotel - and the on the side of famous bar the Strawberry next to the Gallowgate corner.

THE Newcastle Brown Ale logo was a popular sight on United’s shirts from 1990 to 2000 as it coincided with a period of great success.
Newcastle’s ‘Great Entertainers’ finished second in both the 1995/96 and 1996/97 Premier League seasons.
Their financial backing helped fund the purchases of the likes of SunSport columnist Alan Shearer (left) from Blackburn Rovers in 1996.
Over the next decade he went on to become a club hero.
